DADIH ICE-CREAM! ‘Sinless’ dessert!

dadih, dadih ice-cream, dessert, pencuci mulut, zarfadias
I’m pretty sure most of us know what is dadih. I’ve known dadih since my toddler days because my uncle worked in Pejabat Haiwan, or better known now as Department of Veterinary Services in Penang. They made the best dadih ever! From fresh milk, of course!

Now after 30 years, I still love dadih, and in 2009, my beloved nephew started producing his own dadih ice-cream. Yes! Dadih + Ice-Cream = Dadih Ice-Cream! From a humble kitchen in Batu Pahat, to another humble production house in Alor Setar, now it has grown into a production plant and supply chain hub back in our kampung backyard.

And he does have a stockist in Klang Valley – Zarfadias Dadih Ice-Cream operating from a lovely kitchen in Cheras!

This Dadih Ice-Cream comes in ready-to-eat form and premix powder for those who love to DIY. How to DIY? It is super easy, quick and practically fool proof. The taste? Nyum… nyum… nyum… I literally close my eyes with every bite… so what do you think? Hehe… *wink!*

Now that I've made my case for the merits of this lovely dessert, let's move on and talk about how luscious it is, how perfectly creamy, in a way that belies its utter simplicity. And let me walk you through making Zarfadias dadih ice-cream DIY, step by step.

To Cook
Step 1 : Boil water (how much water depends on how much premix powder you use)
Step 2 : Pour in the premix powder
Step 3 : Boil the mixture again

To Eat
Step 4 : Pour the mixture into any bowl you like
Step 5 : Let it cool down / chilled
Step 6 : Dig in!

Super easy, kan?

I made dadih ice-cream numerous times at home, and insisted to my friends that it was a piece of cake to make. No, actually — easier than cake. Hahaha… My friends went home, tried DIY and reported back, wide-eyed, that they couldn't believe how easy and quick it was. I find that's usually the case with Zarfadias Dadih Ice-Cream DIY premix, it's actually easier than making Jell-O out of a box.

There I go again about how easy this is. Let's get back to how it tastes, shall we?

Dadih is a very basic pudding that is made of creamy dairy thickened with edible gelatine. You can eat it straight out of a cup, but it can also be unmolded onto a plate and drizzled with sweet sauce and garnished with fruit, just like panna cotta. A bite of dadih, especially dadih ice-cream is remarkably creamy, melting in the mouth without a trace of grittiness or lumps.

Zarfadias Dadih Ice-Cream currently offers 5 flavors:
1. Vanilla (Original)
2. Chocolate
3. Mango
4. Strawberry
5. Blueberry

Other flavors are available upon request, subject to R&D result from the production kitchen *wink!*

I shouldn’t go on and on about how good it tastes and how easy it is to make. Try it for yourself.

THE HUMBLE CHEF: Proudly serves delicious meals at 'student price'

I have always wanted to write about this particular restaurant, THE HUMBLE CHEF, since the first time I went there last Ramadhan but never managed to find time until today. I know.... a lot of people have been writing about this restaurant... oh well... The Humble Chef is a no stranger to students and expatriates surrounding Pusat Bandar Damansara as a popular food truck serving cheap pastas which has now expanded into a cafe, but somehow it didn't hit me that this restaurant is originated from that food truck.

So, here goes.

My colleagues and I were working till late one fine evening last Ramadhan that we didn't realize it was almost time for buka puasa already. Half an hour to buka puasa and we didn't want to berbuka at the mamak nearby, so a genius colleague of mine suggested The Humble Chef. He said this restaurant serves RM5 spaghetti, and I was like "Yeah right!" coz it sounded so surreal. Where can we get a decent spaghetti at that price, kan? My brain was saying there must be hidden charges or I might later find super fine print somewhere. He quickly called his friend to reserve a table (little I knew then that his friend was actually the owner himself... hihi...). Lucky us, even when the restaurant is typically full house on a weeknight whatsmore buka puasa time, we got ourselves a table reserved!
My first impression upon entering the place - it is pretty cool, hipster, interesting deco with surrounded by art pieces - simple yet tasteful. We marched to the counter coz we passed buka puasa time already. (Customers to order at the counter and make payment upon ordering, just like a typical fast food restaurants, only they are not one). The queue was fast moving, and when it's my turn, I understood why. The menu choices are pretty limited but very suitable for indecisive people like me who usually take hours to decide on what to eat *wink*!
My colleague was right. The price was jaw dropping! RM5 for a decent plate of yummy pasta! I was imagining bringing my kids here and getting them to splurge on their all-time favorite spaghetti carbonara without having to worry if the bill will burn big holes in my wallet. I'm a happy mother! *wink again!* And oh! They have different style of cooking so just choose any that suits your taste bud.

Okay... a little bit more about The Humble Chef (apart from what I've shared above). It is owned by a friendly chap, Chef Rossman, a Western and pastry chef who worked for a few restaurants in Germany before starting up a food truck serving cheap pastas in Pusat Bandar Damansara. I think his main target audience was students surrounding the area, but it grew up to people outside of Pusat Bandar Damansara, especially late night dwellers who like to dine outdoor.

The restaurant was opened in 2012 as a response to escalating demand from his food truck regulars. Well... a wise man once said "If your food is good, customers will follow you wherever you go" and his restaurant is usually filled with regulars, only now they're enjoying the same good tasting pasta in the comfort of air-conditioned room surrounded by interesting art pieces. And the best part is... you still get it at the same food-truck-price! Yeay!
I was told that The Humble Chef will soon spread its wings to Serdang. I could already visualize the success of good marketing strategy among students will be repeated. Chaiyok!

Enough said... I will definitely go there again. Not just for the food, but also for the friendship. Who wants to join the wagon? Let's!
